The Emerald: A New Chapter in Englewood's Future Takes Shape

Project Update | October 2026

The vision for The Emerald continues to take shape in Greater Englewood. More than a building redevelopment, The Emerald represents a community-driven investment in economic opportunity, entrepreneurship, culture, and neighborhood revitalization. Led by a vision of inclusive growth, the project is designed to create a vibrant destination where residents, businesses, and community organizations can connect, collaborate, and thrive.

In September, the Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce (GEC) team and project partners participated in a hard hat tour of The Emerald, stepping inside the building to explore its potential firsthand. The walkthrough offered an opportunity to envision how the space will be transformed and better understand the possibilities for its future use. From areas designed to support entrepreneurs to spaces intended to bring the community together, the tour helped connect the project's larger vision with the physical building that will bring it to life.

Once developed, The Emerald is envisioned as a dynamic hub for commerce, innovation, education, and community engagement. Plans include a community food hall that will showcase local chefs, culinary entrepreneurs, and small businesses while creating opportunities for neighborhood dining and cultural experiences. The building will also feature a ballroom and event space designed to accommodate celebrations, conferences, performances, fundraisers, and community gatherings.

Entrepreneurship and workforce development are also central to The Emerald's vision. A planned co-working and innovation space will provide flexible work environments for entrepreneurs, creatives, nonprofit leaders, and small business owners. Through business development resources, mentorship, technical assistance, educational programming, and networking opportunities, the space aims to help emerging and established businesses build stronger foundations for long-term success.

At its core, The Emerald is about ensuring that investment in Englewood creates meaningful opportunities for the people and businesses already rooted in the community. By supporting local entrepreneurship, attracting new economic activity, and creating spaces for collaboration and cultural expression, the project seeks to strengthen neighborhood wealth-building and establish a lasting community asset. The September tour was an important opportunity for GEC and its partners to experience that vision firsthand as planning and development efforts continue.

The opportunity to help shape The Emerald's future is open to community-minded partners and investors. Founding naming rights and sponsorship opportunities are available for the Food Hall, Ballroom, and Co-Working Space, offering organizations a meaningful way to support equitable development and establish a lasting legacy in Greater Englewood. The Emerald is more than a destination. It's an investment in Englewood's future.
