Why this info session matters
This session is your chance to learn how the Englewood Shared Renewables Training Program can help you step into a growing industry that offers long-term stability and a thriving wage, not just a short-term job. Participants in the program gain hands-on construction and solar skills that connect directly to clean energy careers that are in demand across Chicago and beyond.
You will hear how the training is structured, what a typical week looks like, and what support is available to help you complete the program and move into employment. Program partners will also share how this initiative is designed specifically to create opportunities for Englewood residents and nearby communities.
What you’ll learn
During the info session, you’ll get an inside look at:
Program curriculum: How classroom learning, hands-on construction labs, and virtual reality simulations work together to build real-world skills.
Industry-recognized credentials: How partnering with NCCER and other certifying bodies positions you to work on construction and solar projects anywhere in the U.S.
Career pathways: Examples of roles like entry-level solar installer, construction laborer, and related clean energy positions, including typical duties and starting wages.
Expectations and eligibility: Attendance requirements, age requirements (21+ for the training cohort), and what’s needed to be ready for the upcoming cohort.
You will also have the chance to ask questions directly to staff and program partners so you can understand if this opportunity is the right fit for your goals.
Program benefits you can expect
The Construction & Solar Training Program is designed to remove barriers and help you move confidently into a new field. Key benefits include:
Earn a thriving wage: The training prepares you for jobs that offer competitive pay, benefits, and room for advancement in a rapidly growing sector.
Nationally recognized training: NCCER-aligned curriculum and other industry credentials give you portable skills that employers recognize.
Learn from experts: Instructors and partners bring field experience in construction and solar installation, connecting you with real-world standards and expectations.
Hands-on learning: From tools and safety to solar installation basics, you practice the skills you’ll actually use on job sites.
This combination of training, credentials, and connections helps position graduates for long-term economic mobility, not just entry-level work.
How to get ready and apply:
At the info session, staff will walk you through the application process and timeline for the next cohort, which begins April 1, 2026. You’ll learn what documents you may need, how interviews or screenings work, and how to strengthen your application if you have limited experience in construction or solar.
Bring your questions, your interest in building a new career, and, if possible, a notepad or device to capture details and next steps. Space in the training cohort is limited, so attending the info session is the best way to position yourself to secure a spot and move toward a future in clean energy and construction.
